WADA to insist on early CAS ruling on Valieva’s doping case
SAMARA, November 18 – RIA Novosti, Andrey Simonenko. WADA Director-General Olivier Niggli said the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) would insist on an early decision in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.
Earlier, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) announced that it had registered a case called “WADA against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and Valieva”. According to the information obtained from the CAS statement, WADA asked RUSADA to make a decision on the Valieva case by November 4, when this was not done, WADA handed over the Russian figure skater’s case to CAS.
Niggli said that recently WADA has been in constant contact with RUSADA. “We had many contacts with RUSADA every week if not every day. We tried to understand what was going on. And the contacts were not only about the Valieva case, but also about the implementation of CAS solutions (to restore RUSADA).” aforementioned.
After the Beijing 2022 Olympics team tournament, in which Valieva helped the Russian team win, it was learned that the figure skater’s doping test on December 25, 2021 showed a positive result. CAS allowed the athlete to participate in the individual tournament of the Games, where he finished fourth. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the results of the Beijing Games competition, which was also held with Valieva’s participation, as a preliminary round, and the award ceremony of the winners of the Olympic teams tournament was postponed until the investigation into the incident was completed.
