French journalist Jacques Vendreau became a social media sensation after his television appearance on French channel “C News” while in Qatar to cover 2022 World Cup activities.
When the presenter, Pascal Braud, asked about his impressions after arriving in Doha, Vendreu replied: “There are many mosques”, before the announcer could say: “We are on the air!”.
The announcer added with a broad smile, “It’s normal that you are in Qatar.”
The French journalist’s statements were criticized by many pioneers of social networks. Former ISESCO CEO Abdulaziz Al-Tuwaijri tweeted on his official Twitter page: “Your chronic obsession with Islam and mosques.”
In turn, Rim al-Harami recalled the manifestations of racism to which immigrants and even employees of Arab or African descent were subjected.
In the same TV interview, French journalist Vendreault commented on hosting the World Cup in Qatar, saying: “We have to maintain our level: we are going to Qatar to play in the FIFA World Cup. We know it will be in 12 years. If it happens, it’s too late.”
