Iranian football player Ghafuri arrested for insulting national team
MOSCOW, November 24 – RIA Novosti. Iranian football player Wouria Ghafuri has been arrested by local authorities on charges of defaming the national team and making propaganda against the state, France-Presse reported.
Earlier, the 35-year-old football player posted a photo on his Instagram account (the activities of the Meta company (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia for being extremist) in traditional Kurdish clothes. It was reported that Gafuri was arrested by court order after training with the “Foolad” team from Khuzestan on Thursday.
Gafuri made 26 appearances for the Iranian national team.
Mass riots and protests have continued in Iran since mid-September over the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman, after she was detained by the police aide.
