ESPN: FIFA sues Mexican fans over homophobic chants at World Cup
MOSCOW, December 1 – RIA Novosti. The International Football Federation (FIFA) has filed a disciplinary action over the homophobic chants of the Mexican national team fans during the third round match of the World Cup in Qatar against Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, FIFA launched an investigation for the aggressive chants of the Mexican national team fans during the first-round match against the Poles (0-0). Mexican chants were homophobic, according to El Universal.
It was noted that FIFA did not disclose the timing of the consideration of the two disciplinary cases.
On Wednesday, the Mexicans beat the Saudi Arabian national team (2:1), but that wasn’t enough to reach the playoffs. The Mexican national team finished third in the Group C table and did not leave the group at the world championship for the first time since 1978.
