Martinez announces resignation from Belgium manager after World Cup qualifying
MOSCOW, December 1 – RIA Novosti. Spaniard Roberto Martinez has announced that he has resigned from the position of coach after the Belgium national team left the group at the World Cup held in Qatar.
On Thursday, the Belgium national team drew with the Croatian team in the third round match of the group stage (0:0). The Belgians finished third in the four, collecting 4 points in three games.
The Royal Belgian Football Association announced on its Twitter account that Martinez’s decision to leave the national team coaching was made before the start of the tournament in Qatar.
Martinez took charge of the Belgium national team in 2016. Together with him, the team won the bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
