German football player Neuer holds the record for the most number of matches among goalkeepers in the World Cup.
MOSCOW, December 1 – RIA Novosti. German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer holds the record for the number of matches in the World Cup among players in his role, statistics source Opta reported.
Germany national team Neuer started the third round group stage match of the World Cup against the Japanese team in Qatar. The match against the Japanese for the 36-year-old German placed 19th at the World Championship.
Neuer surpassed Brazilian Claudio Taffarel and compatriot Sepp Mayer in terms of number of appearances in world championships, each with 18 games.
Neuer has been called up to the Germany national team since 2009. The goalkeeper defended the Germans’ gates at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups, as well as the tournament in Qatar. Together with the national team, Neuer won the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.
