Znarok resigns from Kazan “Ak Bars” head coach at his own request
MOSCOW, December 2 – RIA Novosti. Oleg Znarok resigned from his position as Ak Bars’ technical director voluntarily. reported Continental Hockey League (KHL) on the official website of the Kazan club.
It was noted that the club management welcomed the resignation of the 59-year-old coach. Yuriy Babenko has been appointed as the manager of Ak Bars. Coaches Alexander Boykov and Alexander Agopeev will continue to work at the same stadium.
Earlier on Friday, Ak Bars defeated Lokomotiv Yaroslavl at home with a score of 3:2 in the KHL regular season game. The Kazan club has amassed 38 points in 36 games and ranks seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.

Znarok has been the head of Ak Bars since July 2022. His previous club was Spartak Moscow, which he managed from 2019 to 2021. Then Znarok became the coach-advisor of the Russian youth team.
Under Znark’s leadership, the Russian national ice hockey team became the 2014 world champion and won a gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Also, Dynamo Moscow (2012, 2013) and SKA St. Petersburg (2017), he won the Gagarin Cup three times.
