The French Football Federation will discuss Deschamps’ future in the national team in the next two days
MOSCOW, December 19 – RIA Novosti. The President of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Grae, will meet with the national team coach Didier Deschamps about his future in the next two days. informs RMC Sport with reference to the BFMTV channel.
On Sunday, the French team lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout in the World Cup final held in Qatar. After the match, French President Emmanuel Macron asked Deschamps to remain as head coach of the national team despite losing to Argentina. The 54-year-old coach’s contract with France expires at the end of December.
Le Graet assured Deschamps that if the national team reaches at least the semi-finals in the World Cup, Deschamps has the option to stay. According to him, the goal has been largely achieved, so the decision about the future in the national team depends on the coach himself.
Deschamps took over the French national team in 2012. Under his leadership, the French became world champions (2018) and European champions (2016), winning the UEFA Nations League in the 2020/21 season. Ahead of the World Cup final, Le Parisien announced that Deschamps would remain as head coach until at least the 2024 European Championship.
