PRC president Pozdnyakov described Russia’s participation in the Olympic Games-2024 as a priority after passing the election

MOSCOW, December 20 – RIA Novosti, Pavel Levkovich. Organization head Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that the Russian team’s participation and qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is a priority for the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended, as a preventive measure, that international sports federations should not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete due to the situation in Ukraine.

“Today we have created variability in our work, we clearly understand all the main scenarios. Main priorities: Russian athletes will go through the qualifying round to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. So far, no one knows exactly what selection criteria and parameters the international sports federations will establish, “Logistics, visas and We reasonably assume that there are problems with other matters. Authorities will continue to support us in this regard. Today, more than ever, this is a dream, a goal and a desire, Pozdnyakov told reporters during the traditional annual Olympic meeting on Tuesday.

“We see what the politicization of sport has led to. Pierre de Coubertin argued that sport makes our imperfect world better. The foundations are crumbling.”

Previously, the head of the US Olympic Committee (USOPC), Suzanne Lyons, advocated the admission of the Russian team to the 2024 Olympics in Paris without the national flag. The Asian Olympic Council (OCA) has called for making it easier for athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in competitions under its auspices. The Olympic Summit urged the IOC to review the OCA’s initiative on the participation of Russian athletes who comply with the Olympic Statutes and do not violate the sanctions.
