Norwegian grandmaster Carlsen is a six-time world blitz champion
MOSCOW, December 30 – RIA Novosti. The reigning world champion in classical chess, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen became the winner of the World Lightning Championship held in Alma-Ata.
For Carlsen, this blitz was his sixth career title. The Norwegian player scored 16 points in 21 games. American Hikaru Nakamura (15 points) took the second place. Armenian Hayk Martirosyan (15) is in third place.
Russian Daniil Dubov (14.5) sixth, Alexey Sarana (14.5) – seventh, Vladimir Fedoseev (14) – eighth, Vladislav Artemiev (13.5) – tenth, Ian Nepomniachtchi (13.5) – 12- e, Alexander Grischuk (12,5) – 30.
Previously, Carlsen was a four-time world champion in rapid chess (speed chess).
In March, FIDE allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete only in individual tournaments under a neutral flag. The right to compete under the FIDE banner was granted until the end of May and then extended until 31 December. According to the new FIDE decision, which took effect on December 15, athletes from Russia and Belarus are allowed to compete in international competitions under a neutral flag until January 1, 2024.
