Maigurov: I don’t need a head coach yet, but this position is possible
MOSCOW, May 18 – RIA Novosti, Alexander Govorov. The head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maigurov told reporters that today the national team does not need a head coach, but the existence of this position is possible.
It was previously announced that coaches Mikhail Shashilov and Artem Istomin will work with the Russian women’s biathlon team, and Sergei Bashkirov and Yuri Kaminsky with the men’s team. Later, the composition of each of the four groups of athletes assigned to senior coaches became known.
The head of the RBU also spoke about the conflict between coaches Kaminsky and Maxim Maximov.
“It’s better to ask Yuri Mikhailovich, who said that the problems with the athletes who ran away from him are connected with Maximov. It does not bother me, now the athletes have the right to choose who to study with. That’s how it should be. Current conditions,” said Maygurov.
On Wednesday, in Moscow, the leaders of the RBU and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) signed an agreement on cooperation. The agreement is valid for four years, after which it will be automatically extended for a new Olympic cycle by mutual consent of the federations.
