Deschamps says five French players are not at World Cup final level

MOSCOW, January 7 – RIA Novosti. France’s coach Didier Deschamps said that five players of the French team were not at the level of the World Cup final held in Qatar.

The French team lost to Argentina in the World Cup final (3:3, 2:4 on penalties).

“We had four or five players in the starting lineup who weren’t physically well. There’s also the emotional side. For some, this first finale is something special. We were gone for an hour. Then we came back. Po Actually, at least five of the eleven players who started were like that. It did not correspond to the level of the match and such an opponent,” RMC Sport quotes Deschamps.

On Saturday, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced that Deschamps has extended his contract until 2026.

Deschamps took over the French national team in 2012. Under his leadership, the French became world champions (2018) and European champions (2016), winning the UEFA Nations League in the 2020/21 season.
