Nasr-Azadani was convicted on three different charges. He was involved in an incident that resulted in the deaths of three security forces in Isfahan province on 16 November. The player was also found guilty of aiding and abetting the “mohareba” (conceived by the government as a criminal act of using deadly weapons against other individuals or society as a whole) in the “hostility to the Almighty” activity. According to Iranian law, Nasr Azadani will also serve a prison sentence, thus keeping the actor in jail for 16 years.

According to the news in the media in December, Colombian President Gustavo Petro drew attention to the situation by congratulating the Argentina national team for winning the World Cup in Qatar, in the news that the football player is facing the death penalty. The Iranian embassy in Colombia denied the information, saying that the trial has not yet taken place. Nasr-Azadani, 26, is clubless since the summer, his last team was the Iranian “Iranjavan”.

Since mid-September, Iran has been experiencing mass riots and protests in connection with the death of Mahsa Amini after he was detained by the deputy police officer. Residents of the country blamed the authorities for Mahsa’s death. Iranian women started posting videos of them cutting their hair and burning headscarves en masse on social networks.

For two and a half months the protests took on a radical extremist character. The main regions where the turmoil continued were the provinces of Gilan, Khuzestan, Sistan and Balochistan, Tehran and Kurdistan. The rebels began attacking the clergy, the Iranian mosque priests, the army and security forces – the police, the IRGC, as well as members of the Basij – almost daily, on a daily basis. In late October and early November, there were also two terrorist attacks in Iran: the first in the city of Shiraz, and the second in a small city in the southern province of Khuzestan. Terrorists opened fire on civilians and police officers with semi-automatic weapons.
