Post: A Russian biathlete was killed by a classmate. Fatal accident?

Categories

Although the rising talent of Russian biathlon Maria Demidova achieved success in the international arena, she did not succeed in becoming a world star. At the age of 24, an athlete’s life was interrupted by a terrible accident on the road involving a former classmate.

Received medals with Bogaliy and Garanichev

Demidova, who started biathlon with her father in the Omsk Ski Center, went to Krasnoyarsk with Ilgiz Samigullin at a more conscious age. She later represented this region in local competitions. Already at the age of 17, Maria has achieved good results. She became the winner of the Spartakiad and Russian Championships among girls, and in 2008 she celebrated her success in the sprint at the national championship among juniors in the summer biathlon.

Often for Russian biathletes the transition to adult sports is very painful. But in the case of Demidova, everything turned out differently. He made his debut in the IBU Cup at the age of 21 and immediately finished ninth in the sprint. And the very next day, she stood one step away from a medal in the pursuit race. Now, for such results, she would be referred to in the media as the rising star of world biathlon. Presumably Demidova was potentially like that.

At the 2010 Summer Biathlon World Championships, Maria won the silver medal in the relay. By the way, Andrey Makoveev and Evgeny Garanichev fled with him. His partners in the winning relay at the 2010 Russian Championship were no less famous personalities, after which the Olympic champions Anna Bogaliy and Olga Medvedtseva ran in the team.

tragedy on the way

It seems that such a rise should be followed by a strong continuation. Performances at the World Cup and possibly even at the home Olympics in Sochi. But instead, Maria abruptly ended her sports career and returned to Omsk. She nobody really explained what happened, and the athlete himself did not try to give everything to the press. A year later, Demidova returned to skis and continued serious training with the intention of returning to biathlon. Unfortunately, we will never know what could happen from this.

Just a week before her 25th birthday, Maria went cycling along Prospekt Mira in Omsk at around 10 pm on July 26, 2013. The athlete was making his way home and was in a hurry. Otherwise, she wouldn’t cross the road in the wrong place, she would cross at the crosswalk. Barış Caddesi is a busy highway even at late hours. Such actions were absolutely not safe.

In the dividing lane, a red Honda crashed into a high-speed bicycle. The two-wheeled vehicle was shattered. Demidova actually had no chance of surviving, she died on the spot before the doctors arrived. It’s a scary story that doesn’t end there. The driver was a former classmate of the athlete. They had known each other well since their school years.

Incredible fatal accident

There were even rumors that the accident was not accidental. Allegedly, a young man named Farid Gizatulin had motives from the old days. Anyway, what is the probability that two classmates will meet in a big city then?

Rumors quickly dissipated. Gizatulin did not even think of hiding from the scene. On the contrary, he immediately jumped out of the car and tried to help Demidova.

“I didn’t recognize Masha when I got out of the car and ran to her after the accident. We hadn’t seen each other for a long time. The next day, mutual friends said that it was her. Attention, a tattoo in the form of a petal on the girl’s stomach. Then I found Masha on social networks. She had the same tattoo in one of the photos. It’s just a kind of a nightmare,” he said.

Traffic police inspectors did not make any accusations because they did not see any intention in the actions of the young man. Also, Demidov was found guilty of a car accident after his death. Farid’s mother also did not blame and expressed confidence that she would not have any intentions. Unfortunately, all this will not bring back the talented athlete who passed away so soon.
