State Duma deputy Svishchev approved the acquittal of RUSADA in the case of figure skater Valieva

MOSCOW, January 14 – RIA Novosti. Dmitry Svishchev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sport, said there was a serious motivation behind the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s (RUSADA) acquittal in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva.

On Friday, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reported that DAK RUSADA found that Valieva was not guilty of violating the anti-doping rule, but also canceled her results at the 2022 Russian championship, which she won. WADA emphasized that after receiving the case file, it can exercise its right to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The deputy said, “We welcome the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee. I am sure that there is a strongly supported motivational decision behind such a decision. And a professional organization like RUSADA in CAS will need to have a serious legal position.” Quoted on the official Telegram channel of the State Duma sports committee.

Earlier, CAS reported that it had registered a case called “The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and Valieva”. According to the information in the CAS bulletin, WADA has asked RUSADA to make a decision on the Valieva case by 4 November. When this was not done, WADA referred the Russian figure skater’s status to CAS and requested a four-year suspension for the skater. WADA CEO Olivier Niggli said the organization will press for a swift decision.

After the Beijing 2022 Olympics team tournament, in which Valieva helped the Russian team win, it was learned that the figure skater’s doping test on December 25, 2021 showed a positive result. CAS allowed the athlete to participate in the individual tournament of the Games, where he finished fourth. While the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the results of the Beijing Games competition, in which Valieva also participated, as a pre-qualification, the award ceremony for the winners of the Olympic teams tournament was postponed until the investigation into the incident was completed.
