IFAB commends Qatar World Cup’s positive experience in adding extension time
MOSCOW, January 18 – RIA Novosti. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has announced that the World Cup in Qatar has been a positive experience with increased stoppage times, according to the IFAB’s official website.
Ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, the referees received a directive to “distribute injury time more objectively” than delays during the game. The referees of a number of tournament matches were noted for adding a large number of compensated minutes to both the second and first half. For example, the referee of the match between England and Iran (6:2) added 14 minutes to the first half and 10 minutes to the second half.
In addition, the IFAB has decided that video-Assisted Referee (VAR) decisions will be broadcast live to fans, both in stadiums and on TV, to be tested in international competitions throughout the year and will be implemented first at the Club World Cup in Morocco from 1 February. .
