Next season of the Football Nations League will have a new playoff round
MOSCOW, January 25 – RIA Novosti. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has added a quarter-final round to the UEFA Nations League as of the 2023/24 season, according to the organization’s official website.
Now the first and second-placed teams in the A League groups will fight for the Final Four, the teams will play two matches and the winners will play the semi-finals in the Nations League.
In addition, teams that finished third in League A groups and second in League B groups, and teams that finished League B third and League C second, will play a two-legged play-off series for promotion or relegation.
All quarter-finals will be played in March. It was noted that the expansion of the League of Nations will only affect a certain number of teams, the rest will be available for qualifying matches for the European Championship.
The 2023 Nations League Final will be held in Rotterdam (Netherlands) on 18 June and will host the third place match in Enschede (Netherlands) on the same day. In the semi-finals on 14 and 15 June, the Spanish team will play against the Italian team and the Croatians will face the Netherlands.
