Men’s and Women’s Candidates Chess Tournaments will be held in April 2024.
MOSCOW, January 25 – RIA Novosti. According to the website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the men’s and women’s Candidates’ Tournaments will be held in April 2024.
Eight participants will take part in each tournament. The total suggested prize pool for both tournaments is €750,000. The duration of the competition will be 22 days. Tournament regulations must be confirmed before 1 July 2023.
Russian chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates’ Tournament in Madrid in early July, qualifying for the championship game again in 2023 against world champion Magnus Carlsen. However, on July 20, the Norwegian refused to participate in the fight. The Russian athlete now has to face Ding Liren, who is second in the competition in Spain for the world title.
