Coach Rodionenko believes that Russian athletes should participate in the Asian Games
MOSCOW, January 26 – RIA Novosti, Alena Sulizova. Valentina Rodionenko, head coach of the Russian gymnastics team, told RIA Novosti that Russian athletes should participate in the 2023 Asian Games if they want to compete in the Paris Olympics.
On Thursday, the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing due to the situation in Ukraine. A number of international federations followed the recommendations, others allowed athletes on neutral status.
In January 2023, the IOC Executive Committee called for Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to international competitions in neutral status, while proposing that athletes who actively support special operations in Ukraine should not be allowed.
