The Governor of Sverdlovsk revoked the decision on the holding of the Universiade in Yekaterinburg
EKATERINBURG, 27 January – RIA Novosti. The Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, signed a decree canceling the preparations for the Universiade, which will be held in Yekaterinburg in the summer of 2023.
Previously, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) had decided to move the 2023 Summer University Games from Yekaterinburg. FISU also announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes, as well as officials, will not be able to participate in competitions and events under the auspices of the organization until at least the end of 2022.
It is planned to host the International Summer University Games in Yekaterinburg instead of the Universiade-2023, which is planned to be held on August 8-19, and will be held in the facilities under construction for the Universiade. It is planned to invite athletes between the ages of 17-26 who take part in the national teams of universities in Russia and foreign countries.
