Petersburg figure skating championship, which was positioned by the organizers as the main city start of the season with the participation of all the leading figure skaters of the Northern capital, collected only a fraction of them. RIA Novosti correspondent tells how it happened.

First of all, the most important thing: St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation held an excellent tournament. In a tentative start that often gets little attention at the federal level, the city’s championship has been turned into an online event by the leading media. And not at all because there is nothing else to follow in the sports world.

In two types of programs – men’s single skating and double skating – the composition enviably gathered the European Championships, held in parallel without the Russians in Finland. At least, St. It is undeniable that Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, along with Alexandra Boikova and Dmitry Kozlovsky, the two best couples in St. Petersburg will take the gold and silver of the European Championship. Petersburg Championship medalists Gleb Lutfullin, Makar Ignatov and Dmitry Aliev would have definitely pushed aside the French-Italian-Swiss trio of European Championship medalists – of course, St. They should not have slipped worse than in Petersburg. Finally, among women, St. Petersburg tournament, Ksenia Gushchina, the new European champion Russian Georgian and St. She was going to compete with her colleague Anastasia Gubanova from the Petersburg Academy of Figure Skating. And not only dancers could compete—but this was St. A species left behind in St. Petersburg.

Thus, the St. Petersburg championship was generally successful, offering a few more intriguing intrigues just one week after the much-loved Channel One Cup. But in this barrel of honey, unfortunately, there was a fly in the ointment that could of course be passed, but that would be wrong. Because it’s a pity that a very important attempt to increase the prestige of the city championship could actually be great – but it turned out to be a residue.

The thing is. Published on the city federation’s website on December 22 last year, St. Aliev, Alexandra Boikova and Dmitry Kozlovsky will perform at the figure skating cities championship. Attached was a colorful poster with relevant content.

A week before the start of the tournament, gold and silver medalists Evgeny Semenenko and Petr Gumennik of the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk confirmed their participation in the tournament. In general, this gave the tournament the right to practically become a remake of this championship – at least in men’s singles and pair skating, because in Krasnoyarsk the St. Petersburg team took first and second place in these disciplines.

And soon the list of applicants for the tournament appeared on the official website of the St. Petersburg Federation, which, on the one hand, confirms its high status, and on the other, makes him think. Everything looks solid and beautiful – but for some reason Elizaveta Nugumanova appeared in practice. Okay, the fact that he never started this season is that his St. There is no reason to doubt that he is ready to play in the St. Petersburg championship. However, according to information from knowledgeable sources, the fact that in December-January the athlete practically did not participate in training at the Figure Skating Academy in St. Petersburg, and photos from Sochi dominated his social networks are only one reason.

Okay, soon everything was fine with Nugumanova. The next day, the press service of the St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation commented that the figure skater was “not allowed to compete” and was removed from the list of applicants. But then the really best skaters of St. Petersburg began to fall from the championship, like autumn leaves from a birch. Goumennik, Kolyada, Semenenko – their dismissal did not kill the intrigue in the fight for the prizes of the men’s part of the tournament, but greatly impoverished it.

And then the main protagonist of the competition also got a role. Having bought all several hundred tickets in a week to the grandstands of the main rink of the Figure Skating Academy, St. Petersburg fans should be more eager to see it than any other participant. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva was on the list of applicants – and disappeared from them after the draw.

The coach of 2015 World Champion Alexei Mishin laughed, first on the phone, then in person, in response to a student’s request to explain his disappearance. Nor could they explain why Tuktamysheva did not take part in the city federation championship. They did not comment on the reasons for Semenenko and Kolyada’s dismissal – but who knows why their leading athletes, if not the organization running the competition, did not appear at the start?

The office was burned by the wife of Alexei Nikolaevich Tatyana Mishina, who also worked with Tuktamysheva. He told Sport24 that the figure skater’s performance at the tournament was not scheduled, but he did not know how information about his participation came to be. “The federation approved this even before the First Channel Cup, nothing happened to him,” Mishina said.

Later it turned out that the reason for the removal of two other potential championship stars – Semenenko and Gumennik – was valid. Both fell ill with the high temperature after the First Channel Cup, and of course, it would be reckless to perform with the disease – especially considering that the city championship is not the world championship. Of course, there are no complaints about these skaters.

But when news of the leaders’ dismissal began to leak, citing “sources familiar with the situation”, the same federation did not bother to respond quickly and report changes in composition, removing all questions from journalists and viewers alike. He finally came to the Skating Academy, hoping to see something different from what he had seen. Something similar to what happens at the press conferences of the most popular organizations that should get attention: a strong speaker cast is announced, and journalists find some, at best, instantly.

At a time when Russian figure skaters are banned from competing in the international arena, it is certainly admirable that new tournaments are being held or that old tournaments are being made more prestigious. The fact that a good prize fund (more than two million rubles) is ready to snatch at the St. Petersburg Championship, even more so. And the cast turned out to be cool, even without the unseen stars. It would be great if we manage to keep it at the same level in the following years, after the Russians return to the international arena. And if you manage to do without minor, but somewhat unpleasant shortcomings, then this is usually great.
