Tretiak, head of the FHR, said that Hull has always treated Soviet players well and respected them.
MOSCOW, January 30 – RIA Novosti. Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) President Vladislav Tretyak offered his condolences on the death of the owner of the Stanley Cup at the NHL club “Chicago Blackhawks”, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Canadian Bobby Hull.
On Monday, the NHL Players Alumni Association announced that Hull had died at the age of 84.
“It’s no surprise that our Canadian fans from those years loved Hull the most. When he came out on the ice at the Izvestia Awards games in Moscow, the stands always greeted him with well-deserved applause. Bobby Hull is a man. I always look with pleasure at our big, open but shared photos, how we look at each other. It was eight games of the USSR Super Series in 1974 – Canada, then CSKA and our team played multiple times in Winnipeg against Hull. We also talked a lot in Chicago, the city where Bobby had a brilliant club career. I have a very good relationship and his name only evokes good memories. Blessed be his memory,” Tretyak added.
Hull has won the Art Ross Trophy three times (top goalscorer in the NHL regular season) and the Hart Trophy twice (regular season most valuable player). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983, and in 2011 monuments were erected next to the Blackhawks’ home court to him and Chicago’s all-time top scorer Stan Mikita. Hull was a 12-time NHL All-Star. As part of the Canadian team, he participated in the 1974 Super Series against the USSR team.
