Vanguardia: Dani Alves defense demands Brazilian footballer’s release
MOSCOW, January 31 – RIA Novosti. The defense of the Spanish “Barcelona” and the Brazilian national team’s former football player Dani Alves, who were imprisoned in the rape case, appealed for the release of the player, informs La Vanguardia.
In early January, a 39-year-old defender was reported to police by an unnamed woman. He accused her of sexual assault, rape and battering at a nightclub in Barcelona. The actor denied his guilt. On January 20, a Barcelona court issued a preventive measure in the form of detention, refusing to release Alves on bail. The Brazilian faces 4 to 12 years in prison on this charge.
Lawyer Cristobal Martell reportedly prepared a 24-page document that assures Alves that he will not flee and that he will be in Spain until the trial. It refers to the footballer’s family, social, personal and business roots in Barcelona. The player’s defense is ready to offer the court the use of an electronic tracking bracelet, seizure of passport and payment of bail.
Alves is the most decorated player in history. He has 46 trophies. As part of Barcelona, he became six-time champion of Spain, four-time winner of the Spanish Cup and Super Cup, three-time Champions League. Alves has also played for Sevilla, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Brazilian teams Bahia and Sao Paulo.
