MOSCOW, January 31 – RIA Novosti. The Women’s Hockey League (WHL) Board of Directors has decided to allow eight teams to qualify for the 2022/23 season playoffs, according to the league’s official website.
Relevant changes to the WHL’s sporting regulations were approved on January 31.
9 teams participate in the WHL regular season. The WHL’s playoffs will begin with the quarterfinals. In the 1/4 and 1/2 finals, teams will play a maximum of two winning streaks, while the final will be held in a series format of up to three wins.
The Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from international competitions indefinitely at the end of February 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine.
