CSKA qualified for the KHL playoffs after beating Kunlun for the 12th straight time
MOSCOW, February 1 – RIA Novosti. CSKA defeated China’s Kunlun Red Star on ice in the KHL regular season match and participated in the Gagarin Cup 2023 ahead of schedule.
The match, held in Moscow on Wednesday, ended at 7:4 (1:2, 3:1, 3:1) in favor of the hosts. The winners each scored two goals from Mikhail Grigorenko (13th and 35th minutes) and Takhir Mingachev (21st and 47th minutes), a career first for the duo. Maxim Mamin (36), Pavel Karnaukhov (56) and Maxim Sorkin (57) scored one more goal each. Noted guests Colin Campbell (2 and 55), Brandon Yip (11) and Jake Chelios (34).

CSKA secured playoff participation by 20 points ahead of ninth-placed Spartak Moscow, which has 10 more games to play in the regular season. The army team will fight for the Gagarin Cup for the 12th time in a row and the 14th time in the KHL. The two-time league champions were excluded from the play-offs only once in the 2010/11 season.
In the match between CSKA and Kunlun this season, the score was tied – 2-2.
