He had investigated the ATP tennis organization Alexander Zverev because his ex-girlfriend accused him of violence. The investigation was now dropped for lack of evidence.

Men’s tennis organization ATP has closed its investigation into Olympic champion Alexander Zverev over allegations of violence. According to the ATP statement on Tuesday, there was insufficient evidence for the ex-girlfriend’s allegations. Zverev therefore no longer has to fear a punishment.

Unsubstantiated domestic violence allegations

Zverev’s girlfriend at the time, Olga Sharipova, accused 25-year-old Zverev of domestic violence and detailed the allegations in two long press reports. The first publication appeared in the tennis magazine “Racquet” in November 2020, and the second appeared on the internet platform “slate.com” in August 2021.

Zverev has always flatly denied the allegations. German number 1 welcomed the opening of the ATP investigation as it was the only way to prove his innocence.

Sharipova accused Zverev of inflicting violence on her during the ATP Masters 1000 event held in Shanghai in 2019. An independent investigative agency interviewed Sharipova and Zverev, as well as family members and some tennis players, and investigated other incidents that Sharipova mentioned.

Sharipova: No complaints to the police

According to the investigation report, ATP concluded that no ATP rules were violated. Sharipova has not yet filed a police complaint.

Zverev is playing for Germany against Switzerland in this week’s Davis Cup.
