Earlier on his Telegram channel, journalist Ivan Karpov said that Zenit was advising on Azmoun’s return should the 28-year-old Iranian national team player not move from German Bayer to French Marseille during the current transfer window.
Azmoun has made 13 appearances and recorded 2 assists for Bayer Leverkusen this season. Azmoun played for Zenit from February 2019 to January 2022. The striker scored 62 goals and 17 assists in 104 games for the Blue-White-Mavililer jersey. Azmun won three national titles, a Cup and two Russian Super Cups as part of Zenit. The striker was the top scorer of the 2019/20 season and the best player of the 2020/21 season, according to the Russian Football Union.
