Post: Althaus leaps to victory at Willingen

Ski jumper Katharina Althaus wins in Willingen thanks to a strong second jump. Ema Klinec (Slovenia) and Sara Takanashi (Japan) fell behind.

Loudly applauded by the host audience, ski jumper Katharina Althaus celebrated her next individual victory at the Ski Jumping World Cup. The 26-year-old from Allgäu proved his excellent form by jumping 133 and 149.5 meters in Willingen on Saturday.

20,000 cheers Althaus’ great breakthrough

The second attempt in particular cheered Althaus in front of more than 20,000 spectators. Slovenian Ema Klinec and Japanese Sara Takanashi completed the podium.

Althaus managed to win one of the two competitions in the Black Forest at the last World Cup in Hinterzarten. As a result, the success in front of a great background was the fifth win of the season for the woman from Oberstdorf, whose eyes were filled with tears afterwards.

He said of the scene: “It’s extreme that there are so many spectators.” That’s how mixed world champion Anna Rupprecht saw it. “You’re jumping in here to throw a great party for the audience, not for yourself,” said Rupprecht, who finished 20th.

Selina Freitag also impressed with seventh place and jumps of 132.5 and 126.5 meters. On Sunday, the ladies will again have an individual competition (11:45) in Willingen.
