Finkelstein: Mahachev’s name will shine as bright as Nurmagomedova or Emelianenko
MOSCOW, February 12 – RIA Novosti, Pavel Levkovich. Mixed martial arts (MMA) manager Vadim Finkelstein told RIA Novosti that Russian MMA fighter Islam Makhachev’s name will shine as brightly as Fedor Emelianenko and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
On Sunday, Mahachev defeated Australian Alexander Volkanovski and defended his lightweight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title for the first time. The bout was run by UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, with all five rounds gone. Makhachev won by unanimous decision and became the best fighter in the league regardless of weight categories (P4P).
“I disagree with the statements about Volkanovski’s robbery. Yes, there were a few moments when Volkanovski was better. And I say this not because Islam is my ex-fighter, but simply because it is objective. Islam will be as bright as Makhachev. Fedor Emelianenko and Khabib Nurmagomedov as well,” Finkelstein added.
Makhachev is 31 years old, he has 24 wins and one loss. The Russian won 12 fights in a row. Volkanovski, 34, who continues to hold the UFC featherweight belt, has 25 wins and two losses.
