MOSCOW, February 21 – RIA Novosti. Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev says his mother asked him to end his sports career.
On February 12, Makhachev defeated Australian Alexander Volkanovski and defended the Lightweight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title. The bout was run by UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, with all five rounds gone. Makhachev won by unanimous decision.
Makhachev is 31 years old, he has 24 wins and one loss. The Russian won 12 victories in a row. Volkanovski, 34, has 25 wins and two losses.
