Low-ranked teams won six of their eight inaugural KHL playoffs
MOSCOW, March 2 – RIA Novosti. According to the league’s official Telegram channel, six of the eight opening matches of the Gagarin Cup 1/8 final series ended with the victory of the lower ranked teams, setting a new KHL record.
The current KHL playoff draw started with four games on Wednesday, all with the lower seeded teams winning. On Thursday, two more weak players won their away games – Sibir beat Avangard Omsk in overtime (2:1) and Dynamo Moscow beat Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (3:1).
At the beginning of the first round of the Gagarin Cup, no more than three lower ranked teams have won the opening matches.
Also, four of the first eight games of the current playoffs have ended in overtime, a repeat of the Gagarin Cup record. This happened in the 2010/11 and 2012/13 seasons.
