The German NOC opposed the return of Russian athletes to the international arena.
MOSCOW, March 18 – RIA Novosti. According to DOSB’s official website, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) advocated the continuation of the ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
The corresponding statement was made by the DOSB on Friday, after the meeting in Hannover. It was also noted that the organization opposes plans to boycott the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris due to the possibility of Russian and Belarusian participation.
The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions with neutral status on January 25, while recommending that athletes who actively support special operations in Ukraine should not be allowed. Later, the governments of more than 30 countries opposed the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the Olympics. IOC president Thomas Bach said state officials should not decide who can participate in international competitions.
