Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leyva retires due to heart problems
MOSCOW, March 18 – RIA Novosti. Brazilian Lucas Leyva announced that he quit football due to a heart condition.
At the age of 36, in December the midfielder was found to have a scar on the myocardium, which may be the result of myocarditis. Leiva’s last club was Brazilian Gremio.
Leiva is a graduate of Gremio. He represented Liverpool for 10 years when he won the English League Cup, and also played five years for Lazio, where he won the Coppa Italia and twice the country’s Super Cup. The midfielder made 24 appearances for Brazil from 2007 to 2013.
