Russian national team goalkeeping coach: We have plans for Khaikin but we need a reason to call him
MOSCOW, March 21 – RIA Novosti, Alexander Sergeev. The goalkeeping coach of the Russian national team, Vitaly Kafanov, told reporters that the national team has plans for the goalkeeper of the English club “Bristol City” Nikita Khaikin, but he should give a reason for the call.
Khaikin has been playing for Norway Bodø-Glimt since March 2019. He moved to minor league Bristol City in January 2023, where he did not play a single game. In 2021, the goalkeeper was called up to the Russian national team for the first time in his career.
Yekaterinburg Urals goalkeeper Ilya Pomazun was called up to the Russian national football team for the first time for the training camp in March. He’s on loan at the club. He previously played in the Ural half of the 2020/21 season and in the 21/22 season.
“Pomazun made the right choice, he did not sit under Akinfeev in CSKA (Igor). His first season was not so smooth, the second was better, this is even better. The man is very serious, he is moving forward,” the coach added.

It has been determined which goalkeepers will play in the national teams of Iran and Iraq.
