Qatari investor buys Manchester United at record price
MOSCOW, March 23 – RIA Novosti. Qatari investor Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani has made an offer to buy a controlling stake in English football club Manchester United for a record sum, Sky Sports reported.
The deadline for applications for the acquisition of Manchester United ended at 9 PM UK time on Wednesday. The world record deal to buy a sports club was set in the summer of 2022 when the Denver Broncos (American football) were sold for £3.75 billion. The amount offered by the former Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani, exceeds this record, according to the source.
Earlier, it was alleged that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of the board of directors of Ineos, also wanted to buy Manchester United. However, there is currently no confirmation that he has managed to submit his enhanced bid to buy the club before the deadline.
The current owners of Manchester United are Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer, who bought the club for $1.34 billion in 2005. Since then, the Red Devils have won the English Premier League five times, won four League Cups and six FA Super Cups, won the Champions League and played in the final of the tournament two more times. Red Devils fans have been against the Glazer family for the past few years.
