Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, Abu Dhabi Heritage, an exclusive Emirati hospitality destination in the heart of the capital, Abu Dhabi, will host Zayed Sports. Championship in its mini version in the current month of Ramadan.
In this year’s edition, the championship invites the most talented players and teams from all over the Emirates to show their skills and compete for cash prizes totaling AED 184,000 in various sports categories such as football, boxing, paddle tennis, shooting and swimming. The championships also invite family members and friends of athletes to attend and enjoy an environment filled with enthusiasm and encouragement for participants.
The long-awaited tournament has been held since 2019 at Etizane Fitness’ state-of-the-art sports facilities and offers competitions for men, women, youth and children of different age groups to show their sporting skills.
The championship was created 26 years ago to honor the memory of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God have peace in his soul” and to embody his love of sports.
Over the past quarter century, this remarkable initiative has become a platform for a successful sports community in the UAE, inspiring over 40,000 athletes and 590 teams, hosting over 68,000 spectators and distributing prize money of up to 28 million of dirhams.
There is still time for teams and athletes to participate in one of the five sport categories organized by Heritage Abu Dhabi every day after Iftar where you can sign up to swim for AED 50. Dirhams 250 per person for padel and Dirhams 500 per person for shooting and Dirhams 600 for children’s football teams and Dirhams 1,000 for men’s and women’s football teams. Anyone wishing to enroll in the boxing categories can contact the Boxing Federation.
Prize money includes AED 24,000 for first place in men’s and women’s football, AED 10,000 for first place in shooting, AED 5,000 for 1st place in paddle tennis, AED 5,000 for 1st place in men’s boxing and AED 2,500 dirhams for first place. First place in boxing in the youth category.
Lieutenant General “M” Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Council, said: “Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and following in the footsteps of our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al. Nahyan, we are proud to present the Zayed Sports Championship in its twenty-sixth year. For this year and after a 3 year hiatus, we are very proud of the participating athletes and fitness enthusiasts, as they embody great enthusiasm and ambition this year, and we wish all participants the best of luck.
For her part, Sheikha Al Kaabi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Legacy, said: “We look forward to welcoming participants and the community to the Zayed Sports Championship. We have always hosted this championship in the Abu Dhabi Legacy since its inception in 1997, and it is an integral part of the history and heritage of the Abu Dhabi Legacy. We are sure that the competitions and games of all tournaments will be full of emotion and we invite the public to watch the matches and cheer for the participants”.
The 2023 Zayed Sports Championship will be held from March 25th to April 8th, with children’s soccer matches on March 25th, women’s soccer matches from March 27th to 29th, paddle matches from March 27th to 31st, and boxing competitions on March 31st. and April 1st. Swimming events on April 1st, shooting events on April 1st, 4th and 8th, and the tournament ends with men’s soccer matches from April 2nd to 8th.
