Thomas Tuchel, the new coach of Bayern Munich, knows there is no alternative to success after succeeding Julian Nagelsmann in the starting line-up at the Bavarian club.
Bayern are still in contention for a league, cup and Champions League treble, but team officials decided to sack Nagelsmann and bring in Tuchel yesterday, just two months before the end of the season, amid a recent run of bad teams.
“It’s a great honor for Bayern to get in touch with me,” Tuchel, 49, told a news conference at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. He added: “The club’s DNA is clearly defined. It’s about winning and also winning. The team is built around that. It is one of the best and most talented teams in Europe. You can compete with anyone. The title through this team.”
Tuchel will face his former team Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga in April in his first appearance for Bayern Munich. “There’s a big game ahead, now it’s bigger for us, it’s a big game in German football … it’s a decisive phase of the season,” said Tuchel. Tuchel emphasized that the team will do everything to win three titles, the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League. But, according to Tuchel, the first objective is to find communication between the players, indicating that he knows that not all players are happy with the change of coach. He noted that “the quickest way to gain confidence is on the training ground”. Many Bayern fans are unhappy with the manager’s position, with some suggesting on social media that Tuchel will not stay long at the Allianz Arena and that his tenure will not last more than two years, as it did. With Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea because of his style, sharp management.
Tuchel highlighted that “the coaching position will only be available after he is released. I can sympathize with Julian, I feel very honoured.” Tuchel was sought after by Bayern because of his coaching experience at top European clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain top scorer Kylian Mbappé and the Champions League title with Chelsea in 2021.
“We need a great man like him, he has gained a lot of experience,” said Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern Munich’s sports representative on the board of directors, noting that talks with Tuchel began last Tuesday.
