Nadal says he respects ATP’s decision to reclaim Wimbledon points

MOSCOW, May 23 – RIA Novosti. The winner of the 21st Grand Slam tournament, Spanish Rafael Nadal, said he respects the decision of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) not to award ratings for playing at Wimbledon due to the expulsion of Russian and Belarusian tennis players from the tournament. .

Earlier, the ATP and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award rating points to participants of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament due to the organizers’ refusal to allow Russian and Belarusian players.

“I understand both sides. I certainly understand Wimbledon’s position, but on the other hand I understand and respect ATP for their respect for their members. One does nothing positive and the other does nothing negative. My personal view is that they (ATP) have good reasons for making their decisions. And I hope ATP and Wimbledon can come together and agree on a better future for both sides.”

Nadal holds the record for most Grand Slam singles titles. He is also the only tennis player in history to win a Grand Slam tournament at least 13 times (Roland Garros).
