L’Equipe: Russian tennis player Gracheva plans to play for France
MOSCOW, March 27 – RIA Novosti. Russian tennis player Varvara Gracheva completes delivery of athlete citizenship change documents L’Equipe.
Gracheva has been training at the tennis center in Cannes since 2016 and plans to start performing under the French flag.
According to dicodusport.fr’s news, citing journalist Frederic Viard, 22-year-old Gracheva has already passed the language exams, one of the prerequisites for obtaining French citizenship.
Grachev is ranked 54th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. This season, she reached the final of the WTA tournament for the first time in her career and reached the final of the tournament in Austin, where she lost to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk. On Sunday, the Russian woman reached the fourth round of the WTA 1000 category tournament in Miami.
Currently, Russian and Belarusian tennis players are allowed to participate in Professional Tennis Association and WTA tournaments in neutral status in all countries except England.
