MOSCOW, May 26 – RIA Novosti. Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Ski Federation (FLGR), was not re-elected to the board of the International Ski Federation (FIS).

The elections were held as part of the organization’s congress in Milan on Thursday. Vyalbe received 48 votes (out of 115) at the time of voting – the smallest result among 23 candidates. The FIS Council consists of 18 people. Ukrainian Ski Federation president Igor Mityukov (50 votes) and US Ski and Snowboard Association president Dexter Payne (74) were also not elected.

Previously, Finnish Ski Association president Markku Haapasalmi, Polish Ski Association General Secretary Jan Winkel and Swedish Ski Federation President Karin Mattsson opposed Vyalbe’s election to the FIS Council. Vyalbe stated that he does not intend to withdraw from the elections.

Against the background of the situation in Ukraine, the FIS first deprived Russia of the right to host the World Cup Final in Tyumen, and then decided not to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate until the end in competitions under the auspices of the organization. 2021/22 season. The decision on the performance of the Russians and Belarusians in the upcoming international season has not yet been made.

Vyalbe is a three-time Olympic champion and a 14-time world champion in cross-country skiing. He has been leading FLGR since 2010. Vyalbe was first elected to the FIS Council in June 2021. She became the first woman to be elected to the board of directors with the votes of the delegates.
