The defending champion did it again: RB Leipzig won a largely uneventful DFB Cup final against Frankfurt 2-0 (0-0), apart from constant kicks from Eintracht fans. Christopher Nkunku led Leipzig to the victory in the 71st minute. Dominik Szoboszlai scored in the 85th minute.

Eintracht, who last won the trophy in 2018, will compete in the playoffs for the Conference League next season due to the loss. Frankfurt finished the Bundesliga season in seventh place, but would have qualified for the Europa League had they won the trophy.

Bayer Leverkusen is now moving there because Leipzig, who finished third in the Bundesliga, has qualified for the Champions League.

Leipzig could have taken the lead early on. After Frankfurt lost the ball, Szoboszlai dribbled the ranks and found Timo Werner (4th) with a quick pass. However, his result seemed like a better comeback, with Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp having no problems.

Even before kick-off, Eintracht supporters had thrown flares on the grass. About three-quarters hours before kick-off, the two of them flew onto the grass as Kevin Trapp and the backup goalkeepers warmed up. Loud crackling sounds were also heard. Police said that when they entered the Olympic Stadium, they should file a criminal complaint for pyrotechnics.
