Zenit player Douglas Santos became the best defender of the 2022/23 RPL season
BARVIKHA (Moscow region), June 4 – RIA Novosti, Svetlana Bonopartova. Petersburg “Zenith” captain Douglas Santos was recognized as the best defender of the 2022/23 season in the Russian Premier League (RPL).
The award ceremony is held on Sunday in Barvikha. Santos’ rivals in the debate for the best defender title were Giorgi Jikia (Spartak) and Moises (CSKA). The award given to Santos by the British “Chelsea” defender, Alsu Abdulina, was received by Andrei Arshavin, deputy general manager of “Zenith” sports development. The actor himself could not attend the ceremony, but sent a video with words of thanks.
Last season “Zenith” became the champion of Russia and secured first place ahead of schedule. Santos has appeared in 28 RPL games. Together with him, he played “blue-white-blue” 14 times “to zero”. Journalists, including RIA Novosti reporters, fans, captains and head coaches of RPL teams, as well as league legends, took part in the RPL voting.
