Manuel Fernandes, former football player of Moscow Lokomotiv, most likely will not be able to play for the railway workers after his return to Russia, it will be difficult to get into the Russian Premier League club, Portugal manager Paulo Barbosa told RIA Novosti.
On Monday, 37-year-old Fernandes told RIA Novosti that he will be leaving his Iranian “Sepahan” and will then be ready to consider offers from Russia.
“The truth is that he has had injuries in recent years that unfortunately did not allow him to play regularly. It would be great if he could find a club. He should understand that the market in Russia is designed for young and new players. I think he can play in First Division teams or teams that are struggling to protect (register) in the RPL, offers may come from these clubs. The football manager has more chances to play in the First Division and not in the RPL,” he added.
Fernandes played for Lokomotiv, where from 2014 to 2019 he was the champion of Russia and won the Russian Cup three times, the midfielder played for Krasnodar for another year. Before moving to Russia, Fernandes played for Portuguese “Benfica”, English “Portsmouth” and “Everton”, Spanish “Valencia” and Turkish “Beşiktaş”.
