Post: State Duma finds “anti-Russian hysteria” over ROC president

The State Duma described Pozdnyakov’s removal from the post of head of the EFC as a round of hysteria against Russia.

MOSCOW, May 31 – RIA Novosti. Dmitry Svishchev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sport, described Stanislav Pozdnyakov’s premature termination of his powers as head of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) as “a new stage of anti-Russian hysteria”.

On Tuesday, the EFC Congress voted on Pozdnyakov’s resignation from the post of head of the organization, which Russia had to resign ahead of schedule. On March 20, the EFC board voted no confidence on Pozdnyakov as there were concerns that there was a conflict of interest in connection with the removal of Russian fencers from the competition.

“The deprivation of Stanislav Pozdnyakov from the post of Head of the European Fencing Confederation is another round of anti-Russian hysteria. Pozdnyakov is a great authority in the world of sports, fencing has developed not only in Russia, but throughout the planet. Such decisions, Svishchev told reporters, once again It led to the development of politicization in sport, which many officials used for their own purposes. I am sure that the fencing world has suffered a serious loss by making such a decision regarding Pozdnyakov.”

According to the EFC’s website, 23 delegates of the Congress voted out of 45 to remove Russian Stanislav Pozdnyakov from his post as president of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC).

Pozdnyakov is a four-time Olympic champion in sword fencing (1992, 1996, 2000 – in the team championship, 1996 – individual), 10-time world champion and 13-time European champion. He assumed the post of EFC President in 2016, in September 2021 Russia was re-elected for a new term.
