MOSCOW, September 19 – RIA Novosti, Oleg Bogatov. Two-time Olympic champion freestyle wrestler Abdulrashid Sadulayev withdrew from the World Championships in Belgrade due to a serious injury, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili told RIA Novosti.
On Monday, Sadulaev reached the semifinals of the freestyle wrestling competition in the 97 kg weight class, but ultimately was unable to complete his semifinal match against Dagestan Akhmed Tazhudinov, representing Bahrain, due to a neck injury. The Russian athlete had to continue his performance in the tournament for the bronze medal.
Sadulayev failed to earn an Olympic license for the Russian team at the World Championships in Belgrade. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to participate in the competitions as neutrals.
Sadulayev, two-time Olympic champion (2016, 2020), five-time world champion (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021), silver medalist at the World Championships (2017), four-time European champion (2014, 2018, 2019, 2020) , five-time champion of Russia (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020).
