Lakernik: I think I will continue to practice figure skating
MOSCOW, June 16 – RIA Novosti, Andrey Simonenko. Alexander Lakernik, former vice president of the International Skating Union (ISU), who was not allowed to be elected to this post by the ISU Congress last week, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that he plans to continue working in figure skating.
The ISU Congress was held June 6-10 in Phuket (Thailand). Lakernik, 77, was running for reelection as ISU vice president, but was barred from election after Congress rejected an amendment that raised the maximum age for officials to 80. At the end of the congress, Lakernik was awarded the title of Honorary Vice President of ISU. He worked in the Russian expert organization for 28 years.
