Post: The Ministry of Sports announced that “There will be no return with the fan card.”

Matytsin says it is impossible to cancel fan passes for RPL matches

MOSCOW, February 25 – RIA Novosti, Svetlana Bonopartova. Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that the system of entering football matches with a fan card is not an attempt to “kill” sports, and that there will be no return within the scope of this decree.

The fan card has been valid for Russian Premier League (RPL) matches in test mode since summer 2022, and this document has become mandatory when purchasing tickets from spring 2023. Active fans of most league clubs announced that they would boycott matches where fan cards are valid.

“I don’t think this has anything to do with the attempt to kill football. This is a presidential decree, there will be no turning back. The decision is aimed at ensuring security and culture,” Matytsin told reporters.

The fan identification system at sporting events is designed to provide easy access for spectators to the stadium. It was previously used in the Russia matches of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2021 European Football Championship. The law introducing fan cards came into force on June 1, 2022.
