Post: “Playing stupid”: Vyalba – about the protest after the election of the head of the FIS

Vyalbe, head of FLGR, believes Eliash has been legally elected to the post of head of the FIS.

MOSCOW, June 20 – RIA Novosti, Sergei Smyshlyaev. Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), told RIA Novosti that Sweden’s Johan Eliash has won a legitimate victory in the International Ski Federation (FIS) presidential election.

On Monday, the ski associations of Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Croatia filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the way the FIS President was elected. On 26 May, Swedish businessman Eliash was re-elected to the post of FIS President unanimously and without alternatives, within the framework of the organization’s congress in Milan.

“15 countries signed the petition. It was the day before the elections, I think the night before the elections. They set certain conditions. They didn’t like how the elections would be held. So there was no “against” and “abstained” columns. “As I understand it. As a result, they left the hall, they didn’t vote. If those counts were there, Eliash would have won anyway, because so many delegates voted for him. What’s the comment, why are they playing the fool? We voted for Eliash, we didn’t leave the hall” said Vyalbe.

The unanimous result, according to ANSA, actually received 70 votes out of 126. It was noted that many delegates left the hall to protest during the voting. Another reason for dissatisfaction is the economic problems associated with the FIS’ decision to exclude national federations from the World Cup commercialization system.

Elias, 60, was elected president last June, replacing Swiss Gianfranco Kasper, who has led the FIS since 1998.
