American synchronized swimmer Alvarez starts drowning while performing at the World Championships
MOSCOW, June 23 – RIA Novosti. American synchronized swimmer Anita Alvarez fainted while performing at the FINA World Championships in Budapest.
During her solo show on June 22, she lost consciousness and began to sink. Spanish Andrea Fuentes, coach of the USA national team, rushed to the aid of the athlete. He brought Alvarez to the surface and began providing first aid.
The newspaper Corriere della Sera reported that Alvarez was taken to the hospital for an examination that did not reveal any problems. It is estimated that the cause of fainting may be stress as well as the heat in the Hungarian capital.
The World Aquatics Championship will end on July 3rd. In March, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) suspended the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes due to the situation in Ukraine.
