NEW DELHI, 23 June – RIA Novosti. Russian Federation Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin told RIA Novosti that the issue of admission of Russian athletes from winter sports to international starts will be decided closer to the beginning of the season.

At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international sports federations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete due to the situation in Ukraine. A number of international federations excluded Russians and Belarusians from competitions under their auspices, and also canceled competitions in Russia. Other federations have allowed athletes from the two countries to compete in neutral status.

“Cooperation prospects also depend on the representation of Russia in the governing bodies of international sports federations and the position of the leadership of international sports federations. Unfortunately, international federations make decisions taking into account the IOC, which has not yet withdrawn its decision. Recommendation for the expulsion of Russian athletes, “Obviously, the issue of the admission of Russian athletes to winter sports will be decided closer to the start of the season and probably for each sport and competition separately,” he said.

Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), was not re-elected to the board of the International Ski Federation (FIS) in May.

“These decisions are against the principles of sports and, of course, politicized. The authority of all Russian representatives of Russian sports in international organizations has been noted more than once, they all have serious contributions to the development of their sports,” the Minister said.
